From Sea to Shining Sea travels to Orange, California

st john concert series no ribbonSt. John’s Lutheran Church in Orange, California was the host of our latest presentation of our organ and multimedia concert experience, From Sea to Shining Sea.  The concert was presented in the lovely and historic sanctuary of St. John’s in the Old Towne area of Orange on Sunday, September 9, 2018.

As the organist, I was thrilled to perform on the 5-manual instrument by organ builder, Ryan Ballantyne recently completed at St. John’s.  The myriad of sounds available on this wonderful instrument brought the repertoire of From Sea to Shining Sea alive.  From the smallest sounds possible for the Francis Linley Voluntary to the booming sounds of the Revolutionary War as brought to life in James Hewitt’s programmatic Battle of Trenton;  from the lush strings in Manuel Emilio’s Voluntary to the loud pedal reeds of Lucien Southard’s Voluntary;  from the pert distinct flutes of Blithely Breezing Along by Stephen Paulus to the roaring full organ signaling the end of the Concert Variations on The Star-Spangled Banner by Dudley Buck the Ballantyne organ proved its worth.  The audience was treated to a plethora of unique and well-nuanced sounds.

Five cameras brought to life my work as the organist and narrator.  From flying feet and ten flying fingers each audience member had a front-row seat to the spectacle created by an organist.

Interspersed with the live-action camera shots was the magnificent media from videos to still shots by David Jordan taking the audience to life in the New World:  Colonial America, Revolutionary battles, homes, churches, perilous travels, and organs galore.

The large audience of 350+ were mesmerized by the non-stop action of American history before their eyes — all brought together through the artistry of Jeannine and David Jordan.  From Sea to Shining Sea is a not-to-be-missed audience-engaging concert experience.

Celebrating our American Heritage

The organ and multi-media concert experience, From Sea to Shining Sea, was presented by concert organist Dr. Jeannine Jordan in collaboration with media-artist David Jordan at Advent Lutheran Church in Melbourne, Florida on Sunday, November 12, 2017.  The large and receptive audience was immediately captivated by not only the exuberant organ music but the stunning visuals and live camera projections of the work of the organist projected to a huge cinematic-sized screen.

The story of the organ coming to America and becoming the premiere instrument of the 1800’s was brought to life in narration by Mayflower descendant, Dr. Jeannine Jordan.  The stories and anecdotes shared brought the history of the colonies and new United States to life in a unique manner.  The narration, interspersed with a huge variety of American organ music from the simply sublime to the bombastic and thrilling, was enhanced by the creative work of media-artist, David Jordan.  One actually becomes a part of our American history in this organ and multi-media concert experience!

Why From Sea to Shining Sea?

“Outstanding concert this evening at First United Methodist Church in Moorestown, NJ.  We were very impressed with the entire From Sea to Shining Sea presentation — the visual shots of still pictures, camera angles, narration, musical (and other) history of the Colonial Period of the U.S. up to the present time. What an excellent educational/musical presentation of a quick and concise history of the organ in the U.S. Thank you so much. We look forward to your next presentation when it’s completed- Around the World in 80 Minutes.  Bruce Smith, Moorestown, NJ
